If you were following my social media updates yesterday, you will have noticed a busy thread on the subject of training versus appreciation.
I suggested that team members who couldn’t do the job required training – and that those who wouldn’t do the job required appreciation.
A predictable mini-tornado followed, with strong views expressed (take a look at my facebook profile yesterday).
I’d just like to set you a challenge today.
Appreciate those around you.
Go on – just for one day – put your prejudices aside, leave those self-fulfilling attitudes in a cupboard – and be the life and soul of the place.
Let yourself go.
Have them wondering if you’ve been smoking something or (typically British) they have to worry.
Appreciate.
See what happens.
Let me know later…..

Funny, just been reading Paddi Lund’s Building the Happiness-Centred Business and appreciation fits very nicely into Paddi’s Courtesy System. However, still agree with the facebook comments – sometimes people’s lives outside work impact on their business lives and no amount of ‘appreciation’ is going to being them on board.
thanks for your feedback Philip and pleased to hear you’ve read Paddi’s book! cb
