Asking for patient referrals

A suggested dialogue:

“John

Now that we have finished your current course of treatment, here is a mirror – take a look at your smile and let me know what you think.

(assume positive response)

I agree – we are delighted with the result also.

John – at this point it’s our normal practice to ask our patients a couple of favours – do I have permission to ask you?

(assume positive response)

First of all, you may know that our business grows primarily through word of mouth marketing.

I would be delighted if you would pass these on to any family, friends or colleagues that you think would benefit from a visit to a practice like ours. Would that be OK?

(assume positive response)

John, is it OK if I go for the second favour?

(assume positive response)

You may have noticed in our patient lounge a testimonial folder, in which we invite patients to write about their customer service experience.

Would you have any objection to adding a letter to our folder?
